Education for a kind mind

OUR MISSION

The Initiative for Wellbeing in Education empowers students through emotional intelligence (EQ) practices to become thriving people who contribute to their own and worldwide wellbeing.

iWe is a leading-edge change maker in the education field. When students are empowered to understand the nature of their own minds, they transform their consciousness and perception of themselves and the world. In an age of unprecedented anxiety and its resultant apathy, the antidote lies in what students learn — or unlearn — in our schools.

Empowerment

An unintended consequence of  systems of education is that often students have learned obedience and conformity at the cost of their sense of power and autonomy.

Even (often especially) high-performing people struggle with a damaged sense of self due to the internalization of a system which inadvertently teaches them not to trust themselves in deference to external authority.

Emotional intelligence education empowers students at the deepest level, allowing them to be the free-thinking, creative, and unique beings they naturally are.

Emotional Intelligence

Traditionally, education is an expansion of the mental faculties. It develops thinking, reasoning, and debating abilities. The human mind is an exceptional tool, and, if we only develop these left brain faculties we are not setting people up to understand how to work with the mind to create inner equanimity.

EQ is now recognized as a high form of intelligence that has the power to create lasting change within people and the world from a place of compassion and awareness. While emotional intelligence is the skill that is the most needed right now at this juncture of human history, it is also the most often neglected.

Education

These two key factors - emotional intelligence and empowerment - are the most important assets that are not only missing from, but often actively discouraged in, our educational institutions.

By introducing and prioritizing these values, people have access to their creativity and therefore innovation, while also increasing compassionate intelligence, inwardly and outwardly.

People with a high level of self-understanding and self-worth are people who can heal not only themselves but the endemic effects of colonialism, patriarchy, trauma and more. This is what is being called for at this time in human history as we work to create a saner, safer world.
